For the last ten years as well as creating a range of bespoke pickers, kits, education and engagement programmes, tools and resources to support our customers in creating better environments for all – we have also supporting our customers with FREE marketing resources and campaign consultation to help them develop innovative partnerships, best practice, innovative working methods and sustainable campaigns all working towards their CSR and Sustainable Development Goals.

FUNDING INFORMATION

In order to achieve environmental goals by running successful and sustainable clean-up campaigns, we unquestionably need the appropriate funding to make it all happen.

There are many funding routes already available, and new grants are frequently released. You will find that even though there are various funding titles and sources – through charitable trusts, lottery or local government for example – many can be applicable to clean-up campaigns. Good news for everyone!

It’s knowing where to find such grants, as well as how to apply for them, that can be the tricky part – and that’s where we come in!

I am a community group; do I qualify for any discount?

We often support community groups in their clean up campaigns and have special discounted order forms for supporters of our environmental charities and for groups or schools with limited budgets. We have even donated products and took part in campaigns ourselves. We also gift aid back on the sale of our goods to national environmental chairities to support the good work they do. I have a certain amount of people in my clean up group; how much equipment do I need?

We tailor make orders to certain sizes of groups. Our standard kits are available in singles, up to 10 people, or up to 30 people. You can store away and re-use the kit after every clean up, ensuring the equipment is there for you whenever you need it. We also supply equipment in single units – Whatever you need for your group we can supply you with the right equipment! What’s more we can also personalise our products to promote your campaign or group.

Awards for All gives groups in England small Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000. They will fund a wide range of community projects aimed at developing skills, improving health, revitalising the local environment and enabling people to become more active citizens. WRAP runs the Litter Innovation Fund which is a Government grant scheme which groups can apply for upto £10,000 for innovative schemes to tackle litter on the streets and in their neighbourhood and marine litter. Certain John Lewis stores across the UK also have loan litter picking equipment available for community projects – it is worth going into your local store and speaking to the Community Manager to find out more.

McDonalds are very good in terms of support local initiatives with each store location. We would recommend going into your local store and speaking to the Planet Champion who will be able to help you further. A lot of stores have litterpicking equipment available.

Another useful site is https://www.neighbourly.com/ which links businesses with charities and groups. Businesses such as M&S and Starbucks can be found there too.

Our official partnership and affiliated organisation membership with Keep Britain Tidy – England leading and oldest environmental charity began in 2015, though we have worked in partnership since 2010.

The #2MINUTEBEACHCLEAN is  run by The Beach Clean Network Limited a not for profit organisation that was set up in 2009 by Martin Dorey and Tab Parry to encourage beach cleaning.

Helping Hand Environmental have been working with this innovative group since 2015. Using Twitter and Instagram to try to inspire others, Martin came up with the idea of doing just 2 minutes of picking up litter at a time – but every time – and began using the hashtag. Since then many thousands of hashtagged posts have appeared on Instagram and Twitter from every continent.

And their beach clean stations are A-Frame boards with an outer holder for our litter pickers and an integrated holder for carrier bags. Users take a litter picker and a bag, fill it up with litter for 2 minutes or more and dispose of the litter in nearby bins or recycling points.

COSTA Coffee is proud to launch an environmental themed Reading Week.

Working in partnership with 550 Costa stores each will be hosting a Costa Reading Week  for all pupils, parents and staff who have been selected will be sent a school’s  delivery pack.

Through the 550 Costa stores involved, more than 33,000 children across the UK will benefit from the project and the resources including books, posters, lesson plans, teacher guide, lapel stickers and a dramatic play script are all delivered to the school free of charge by Costa & the Police Community Hubs who run Barney & Echo series.

The chosen story for this collaboration is called “Sparky’s Big Idea” which is designed to be delivered in-school as a project surrounding the environment.

In addition, parents, children and teachers who visit their local participating Costa store to take part in Reading Week activities will be offered a free beverage whilst enjoying a special range of activities including:

 

  1. The Litter Heroes story to read, featuring Barney & Echo especially created for Costa for Reading Week and featuring a new story from Barney & Echo, all about litter and responsibility in our communities provided by the Police Community Hubs.
  2.  A special Environmental activities booklet to complete. This is to help stimulate young minds to begin to think about their environment and how sustainability can impact their choices – developed in partnership with Costa.
  3.  Helping Hand Environmental have created a Design Your Own Litter Picker competition entry form where pupils can not only design their own equipment, but also see the winning design come to life when Helping Hand manufacture the design and present it to the winners! Check out our official blog for full list of winner and runners up!

Helping Hand Environmental gave every school taking part a FREE School Litter Guide on how to plan a litterpick or develop a litter hit squad in your school.

Keep Britain Tidy will be in touch to talk to you about the Great British Spring Clean in Spring 2018 and how your school can become a Keep Britain Tidy Eco-School. In addition, they will be running a Anti-Litter Poem competition.
